HOW DID YOU START AS A VISUAL LABEL?
Antivj was originally founded by Yannick Jacquet, Joanie Lemercier, Olivier Ratsi and Romain Tardy.
With Nicolas Boritch as producer/manager.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Each artist on the label has personal interests and inspirations. From absurd-machinery creators, to astrophysics, urban photography, code and open source communities…
They share a common interest for visual abstraction and immersive experiences.
HOW DO YOU DEVELOP YOUR INSTALLATIONS?
There are no set rules, and it also mainly depends on whether it is a site-specific work, where the space/architecture will usually be the starting point. Or whether it is an standalone installation, where an idea or an experiment might be a starting point.
Light, and mainly projected light, has been an recurring element in most work. Just as sound of course. And space (exhibition space, architecture or structure).
The work process and the tools used also depends on the above.
WHAT IMPACT DOES SPACE, THE SURROUNDINGS, HAVE ON YOUR WORK?
The space and surroundings are obviously key. Even for a standalone piece, some readjustments are always needed to make it work. You need to try to create a relationship where each element space/light/sound will combine and reinforce each other. We have never re-use anything when it comes to site specific work.
THE VISITORS ARE ALLOWED TO PENETRATE THE INSTALLATION. ARE THEY PART OF THE ARTWORK OR IS IT JUST A WAY TO EXPERIENCE IT FROM ANOTHER VIEW?
It can be both, or either. That is up to the audience to decide how they see it, how they want to experience the work. 3destruct is a good example, as it really shows something about people’s character.
Yannick Jaquet, Jeremie Peeters & Thomas Vaquié (ANTIVJ), thank you.
